Canada is now banning single-use plastics

In December 2021, Canada’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change released an early draft proposal to prohibit the use of certain single-use plastics in Canada including:

  • Checkout bags
  • Cutlery
  • Foodservice ware
  • Plastic ring carriers
  • Stir sticks
  • Straws

There are some key items missing from the proposed draft, including:

  • Plastic beverage  containers
  • Plastic-lined single-use coffee cups
  • Produce and meat bags
  •
Additionally, the export of single-use plastic products within Canada is not included in this ban meaning our plastic produced here will go on to pollute other countries.

Fortunately, this draft is still open for public consultation until March 5th. We would love your support in getting additional plastics that harm our environment properly regulated.
