Michelle Brake
Growing up along the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, Michelle feels most at home when she’s near the ocean. She has a passion for advocacy, sustainability and learning about new ways to embrace a zero-waste lifestyle. Currently residing in St. John’s, she takes any opportunity to hike and explore all that the local shorelines have to offer.
Michelle has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in political science from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. During her studies, she had the opportunity to work on a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council grant project and write a thesis specializing in transboundary water governance in the Rio Grande basin and the Great Lakes. Her university studies strengthened her ability to advocate for policy change that supports the health of our marine environments and to analyze the sustainability of existing government policies. Michelle is so excited to take on the role of Environmental Policy Analyst here at Mind Your Plastic, and to be a part of a team creating positive change in the environment and reducing plastic pollution in our oceans.
