Haley Higdon (M.A., OCT) is a guest on Turtle Island and is the Program Director for Natural Curiosity at the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study Laboratory School, (OISE/U of T). Haley was the managing editor for the development and publication of the program’s mentor text, Natural Curiosity 2nd Edition: The Importance of Indigenous Perspectives in Children’s Environmental Inquiry. Combining her classroom teaching experience and strong commitment to environmental sustainability, in partnership with Outdoor and Indigenous Education Leads, Haley has provided hundreds of professional learning experiences for educators across Canada and beyond. Haley is the recipient of the 2025 Environmental Education Award from the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario and the 2025 Excellence Award for Outstanding Individual in an Organization from the Canadian Network for Environmental Education and Communication.
