Key Responsibilities

  • Event Representation: Attend community events, workshops, and other relevant gatherings to represent Mind Your Plastic.

  • Engagement and Education: Engage with event attendees to raise awareness about plastic pollution issues in Canada, including its environmental and social impacts.

  • Information Dissemination: Distribute informational materials provided by Mind Your Plastic, including brochures and educational resources, to educate the public about the organization’s mission, goals, and programming areas.

  • Public Speaking: Deliver engaging and informative presentations on plastic pollution and Mind Your Plastic’s initiatives to audiences of varying sizes, including both informal group discussions and formal public speaking engagements.

  • Networking: Establish and maintain positive relationships with event organizers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to further Mind Your Plastic’s outreach efforts.

  • Feedback Collection: Gather feedback from event attendees regarding their awareness levels, concerns, and suggestions related to plastic pollution and Mind Your Plastic’s activities.

  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other volunteers and team members to ensure smooth coordination and execution of community engagement activities.

  • Promotion: Assist in promoting upcoming Mind Your Plastic events, campaigns, and initiatives to event attendees and through social media platforms.

  • Adaptability: Be flexible and adaptable to different event environments, audience demographics, and engagement strategies to effectively communicate Mind Your Plastic’s message.

Qualifications​

  • Passion for Environmental Conservation: Demonstrated passion for environmental conservation, particularly in addressing plastic pollution issues.

  • Knowledge: Basic understanding of plastic pollution and its environmental impacts in Canada.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse audiences in various settings.

  • Public Speaking Skills: Comfortable with public speaking and presenting information to groups of varying sizes.

  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team-oriented environment.

  • Reliability: Dependable and punctual, with a commitment to fulfilling volunteer responsibilities.

  • Flexibility: Willingness to volunteer as needed, including evenings and weekends, based on event schedules.

Mind Your Plastic is a registered Canadian charity that started in 2016. Mind Your Plastic’s mission to eliminate plastic pollution in Canada.

Through our work advocating with municipal government for policies that better regulate materials used in our economy, working alongside Canadian businesses to give consumers better plastic-free choices, and our direct action programming, like our Circular Economy Ambassador Program, we are moving towards a plastic pollution-free future for #PlasticFreeLandAndSeas.

Annually, over 300 million tons of plastic is produced around the world and unfortunately, more than 90% of that plastic is not recycled. Distressingly enough, much of that plastic ends up in our oceans with at least 8 million tons of plastic being dumped into the ocean each year.
